250th COMMEMORATIVE MARBLE AND BRONZE SCULPTURES OF ROBERT BURNS
Supported by the Robert Burns World Federation.

~ AVAILABLE NOW ~

SCULPTOR DAVID CORNELL HAS CREATED A LIFE SIZE BUST OF THE BARD - THE FIRST MAJOR PIECE TO BE PRODUCED IN OVER 120 YEARS TO CELEBRATE THE BIRTH OF ROBERT BURNS IN 1759.

EACH MARBLE BUST WILL BE HAND CARVED FROM THE FINEST MARBLE. AND THERE  IS ALSO A BUST AVAILABLE IN THE FINEST LOST WAX BRONZE.

As the 250th Commemoration of the birth of Scotland's most famous son continue, we offer the first marble bust to be created of Robert Burns since the 19th Century, and a classical art standard lost wax bronze... our tribute to arguably the world's finest poet and lyricist.

As a tribute to, and a memory of Burns in your home, in a boardroom, or in a museum, library or hotel or in any public space, the Burns Commemorative Busts represent a unique opportunity in the collection of Scottish art.

Widely acclaimed sculptor David Cornell, whose works are in the Royal Collection and many other important collections throughout the world, accepted a challenge which others in the 19th Century also took up when producing mainly monumental sculptures of Burns. These are in public spaces in many continents explored and developed by Scots. Few lifesize examples were produced for  the individual collector.

Like the others before him, Cornell drew upon the only serious portrait of Burns for inspiration, painted in the 18th Century by Alexander Nasmyth.

Cornell's treatment differs from many of the other public sculptures, following his detailed study of that unique painting. Because of the size of public statues Burns often seems to be portrayed as a heroic, almost macho figure. Cornell read into the Nasmyth portrait the sensitivity and gentleness of a poet who was a son of the soil, but much, much more. Burns died at an early age of 37 - his youthful image and fineness frozen forever in time.

Cornell says "Nasmyth clearly captured Burns at the height of his popularity. His portrait is of a truly handsome man who unsurprisingly was hugely attractive to women, for whom he also had the greatest respect."
Cornell sought to capture the magic and mystery of Burns appearance.

A bronze life sized bust has been installed in the Canongate Kirk on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, which is the official church of Holyrood Palace, the Queen's home when she is in Edinburgh, and to which she regularly
attends services.

The bust was unveiled at a service in the church by Mike Russell, Minister of Culture in the Scottish Government, in the presence of international members of the Robert Burns World Federation representing Burns Clubs as far apart as Canada and countries on the Pacific Rim.

Burns fame and influence grows exponentially year by year, country by country, and yet it comes as a surprise to recognise that even Abraham Lincoln gave Burns as his all time favourite poet. There is no continent that his words and observations of the human condition have not touched.

Each marble bust, carved by hand from the marble block, is a unique work of art. This is inevitable in hand carving as no two pieces can ever be exactly the same.

The bronze bust is in stunning, fashionable bronze.
